Philosophy and Policy

Basic policy on certification of completion and conferment of degrees

The objective of this course is to train human resources with cutting edge specialized knowledge and advanced research skills in the pharmaceutical sciences with pharmacy at the core, and who can play an active role in the international community.
Students are required to receive the necessary research guidance, earn at least the prescribed number of credits from lecture subjects, and meet the prescribed standards for the English proficiency test. Moreover, research findings need to undergo reviewed publication in an academic journal. After writing a thesis describing the research findings, giving an oral presentation, and discussing them, the content is examined, and the students who pass this examination are awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Qualities and skills that students should acquire

  1. Acquire a high sense of ethics, a sense of responsibility, cutting-edge specialized knowledge, broad knowledge, and research skills as a researcher in the pharmaceutical sciences.
  2. Acquire skills in explanation, information collection, and communication as well as international awareness and English proficiency to be able to play an active role in the international community.
  3. Being able to take leadership as a researcher in the pharmaceutical sciences in conducting pharmaceutical research, from problem discovery to problem solving, and contribute to the development of the pharmaceutical sciences through cutting-edge research activities that are highly original and innovative.

Basic policy on the curriculum

This course adopts a thorough curriculum structure to train human resources with cutting edge specialized knowledge and advanced research skills in the pharmaceutical sciences with pharmacy at the core.

Basic policy on the educational content and educational methods (curriculum implementation)

1. Educational content
  1. Acquire a high sense of ethics, cutting-edge specialized knowledge, and broad knowledge required for carrying out research tasks.
  2. Acquire skills for literature reading comprehension and explanation. Additionally, acquire English proficiency to be able to play an active role in the international community.
  3. Through research activities in the pharmaceutical sciences, acquire skills in problem formulation, problem solving, research advancement, thesis writing, and presentation.
2. Educational method
  1. “Research Ethics for Ph.D. Researchers” is provided in order to acquire a researcher’s sense of ethics. Moreover, “Specialized Subjects of the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences,” where all faculty members in the curriculum teach their own specializations, is provided to acquire cutting-edge knowledge.
  2. “Exercise in Pharmaceutical Sciences” is provided to foster skills in literature reading comprehension, explanation, and transmission. To cultivate English proficiency to be able to play an active role in the international community, some subjects are taught in English and “Research in Pharmaceutical Sciences” is provided.
  3. “Exercise in Pharmaceutical Sciences” is provided to foster the skills to present your own research findings. Moreover, “Research in Pharmaceutical Sciences” is provided to foster skills in thesis writing, presentation, and discussion as you plan and execute research in the pharmaceutical sciences with the guidance of your primary supervisor.
Evaluation of learning outcomes
  1. Standards and methods for evaluating learning outcomes are indicated in the syllabus for each course.
  2. The three qualities and skills as well as learning outcomes listed in the Diploma Policy will be comprehensively evaluated through the publication of the research findings in a peer-reviewed academic journal, the writing of a thesis describing the research findings, and an examination of the oral presentation and discussion of the thesis.

The objective of this course is to foster cutting-edge knowledge, skills, and research skills in academic fields (pharmacy, medicine, and health science-related) with pharmacy at the core. Through advanced and developmental education and research in the fields of pharmaceutical sciences, we cultivate self- reliant and true researchers with abundant creativity, rich knowledge, outstanding research planning skills, strong leadership, and the ability to play an active role from an international perspective. Specifically, we train human resources who will be involved in research and planning related to drug discovery at pharmaceutical companies, university teachers, researchers at public institutions, and administrative personnel in the fields of medicine, welfare, pharmaceutical affairs, and the environment. We welcome students who aspire to play an active role in such professions in the future regardless of previous experience in academic fields.
The basic policy selecting students for admission will be to focus on those with a certain level of academic proficiency (academic major and English skills), possess understanding and enthusiasm for the research topics they have undertaken so far, and have a strong intention to work actively in the aforementioned fields in the future. Selection is based on basic academic ability, English proficiency, logical thinking ability, and comprehension of research topics.
