Our laboratory is among the leading domestic pharmaceutical research institutes developing novel vaccine candidates against infectious diseases such as malaria. We focus on the biology of malaria parasites, core research about infectious diseases and molecular immunology, and those clinical outputs such as vaccine developments and innovative drug developments. Our long-term goal is to develop highly effective next-generation vaccines against malaria.
To accomplish this goal, Professor Yoshida and his laboratory stuffs instruct students in both professional development and experimental techniques, fostering teamwork and collaboration. Young researchers and graduate/undergraduate students join our research projects, while collaborative research is ongoing with top research institutes in Japan and countries such as the United Kingdom, Indonesia and Brazil.
Research in the laboratory includes:
- Development of the next-generation malaria vaccines that activate innate immunity
- Development of liver-directed gene delivery system
- Development of biomarkers of mosquito exposure for evaluating malaria vector control
