( MESSAGE ) What is the Drug Delivery & Science laboratory?

Every day, cancer cells are born in our bodies. But, we don't develop cancer because our immune system eliminates these cancer cells. In other words, our immune system has the potential to cure cancer. But, if the immune system does not function properly, cancer can develop. In our laboratory, we are developing nanomachine (multifunctional nanoparticles) to enhance immune cells and are disseminating our research on the mechanisms of cancer immune responses and new cancer immunotherapies worldwide. The nanomachine is a type of drug delivery system (DDS), a pharmaceutical technology used to create drugs. Would you like to join us in developing original nanomachine and contributing to a future where cancer can be cured?

What We Do

  1. POINT 01

Nanomachine design based on the understanding of cancer immunity

Based on the latest findings in tumor immunology, we design nanomachine that carry specific molecules to elicit effective anti-tumor immune responses. By evaluating the performance of these nanomachine and incorporating the results into our design process, we optimize their functionality.

  2. POINT 02

Targeted delivery technology for immune cells

We have developed a novel technology that allows us to more precisely distinguish between different types of immune cells. By incorporating this technology into our nanomachine, we can target specific immune cells with greater accuracy.

  3. POINT 03

    Controlling immune cells with nanomachine

Nanomachine must perform specific functions within immune cells to be effective. Thus, we carefully design our nanomachine to ensure they can manipulate immune cell behavior once internalized. By monitoring the effects of our nanomachine on immune cell function, we continuously refine their design.

  1. POINT 01

To assess the impact of the designed nanomachine on the cancer immunity

It is crucial to verify whether the designed nanomachine can induce the intended immune response. This feedback loop is essential for refining our nanomachine design. Additionally, unexpected responses can lead to new discoveries.

  2. POINT 02

Integrating nanomachine design with cancer immune status

Understanding the immune status of cancer is crucial for designing effective nanomachine. We are also conducting research to develop simple methods for assessing the immune status of cancer, enabling us to design nanomachine in a more rational and systematic manner.

  3. POINT 03

To shed light on the unknown of cancer immunity using nanomachine

By utilizing nanomachine, we aim to elucidate unknown mechanisms of cancer immune responses and contribute to the development of cancer immunotherapy. Our primary focus is on understanding how molecules that interact with immune cells induce anti-tumor immune responses in vivo.

Policy

  1. 01 To cultivate research ability

Training in research abilities is the most crucial aspect of graduate education. While research encompasses a broad range of abilities, we prioritize logical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. Logical thinking and problem-solving are essential for the daily research cycle of interpreting data, drawing conclusions, identifying new problems, and devising solutions. Creativity, on the other hand, is the essence of research, requiring the ability to formulate appropriate research questions and develop novel ideas. Our lab provides guidance to cultivate these research abilities through daily research activities. We believe that research abilities are valuable not only for research but also throughout one's life. While achieving research outcomes is important, we hope that our students will engage in self-development through research and become active members of society.

  2. 02 To enhance communication skills

No matter how outstanding the research results are, they will be lost if not disseminated. Communicating research findings is essential for both personal and societal growth. To foster this ability, we provide numerous opportunities to enhance writing, presentation, and questioning skills through research seminars, academic presentations, thesis guidance, and research paper writing. It is crucial to understand research ethics when disseminating research findings. These skills are invaluable not only for academic careers but also for professional life, helping individuals to enhance their presence. We aim to cultivate students who can achieve research outcomes and present their findings at academic conferences and in international peer-reviewed journals.

  3. 03 To enjoy research

Unlike student practical experiments where the answers are already known, research in a laboratory involves tackling problems that no one in the world has solved yet. Thus, most experiments will fail, which can be challenging. But, failure is an excellent opportunity to train your problem-solving skills. Experience the joy of seeing your hard-earned strategies succeed. Additionally, one of the most exciting aspects of research is the possibility of making a world-first discovery. Your time in a university research laboratory is the first and last chance for you to fully immerse yourself in research. Enjoy your research to the fullest. You will undoubtedly feel a significant personal growth.
